The home grown ‘tough vehicle manufacturer’ Mahindra gets ready to launch a compact SUV, the KUV100, on the 15th of January 2016.

From the diesel-only utility vehicles major Mahindra & Mahindra, comes a petrol vehicle for the first time. With the unveiling of its first compact SUV, KUV 100, Mahindra enters the petrol segment. The new mFalcon engines are one of the many firsts from Mahindra.
This will be the eighth launch by Mahindra this fiscal year.

KUV100 will be available in 7 trims namely K2 & K2+, K4 & K4+, K6 & K6+ and K8. All variants apart from the top end K8 will also have a + version. With the addition of ABS to all variants, Mahindra has sent out a strong and safe note to the consumer and the Indian automotive industry. Whether the other manufacturers will sit up and pay attention is a fact unknown. All the + variants get airbags.
As all the other Mahindra vehicles, this one is all about style and size. It is tall and has a butch design. The wrap-around headlights and chromed rear door handle mounted on the window add appeal to the crossover appearance. External features include faux skid plates, LED daytime running lights, stylish tail lamps and a tailgate spoiler. The alloy wheels come with split 6 spoke design.
The KUV gets a monocoque chassis with a front-engine front-wheel-drive setup. The car will be able to accommodate five passengers. A sixth passenger may also be able to sit, thanks to the bench seat in the front.

The cabin is a lot more modern with silver accents and glossy piano black panels. The features include an audio system with a touchscreen, vertically mounted control knobs, and steering mounted audio controls.
The KUV100 comes with an option of both a petrol and diesel power. The petrol engine is a new mFalcon 1.2 litre, 3 cylinder motor which produces a peak power output of 82 bhp and 114 Nm of torque. The engine will have dual Variable Valve Timing. The diesel on the other hand generates 77 bhp of power and 190 Nm of torque. The diesel engine will be a turbocharged engine. Gear change will be a 5 speed manual transmission initially. An AMT can be expected later.
The KUV100 will compete with the likes of the Ford Figo, Honda Brio, Maruti Swift and Hyundai Grand i10.
This compact SUV will have prices starting from around INR 4 lakhs onwards. This is to be Mahindra’s cheapest passenger car yet.
